Project Highlight

Smarter Cold Chain Operations Through Connected IoT Monitoring

Maintaining stable environmental conditions is critical for refrigerated containers transporting temperature-sensitive goods. However, as refrigerated fleets expand, manual inspections become increasingly inefficient, making it difficult to continuously monitor container conditions and respond quickly when issues occur.

KPS developed an IoT-powered remote monitoring solution that provides real-time visibility into refrigerated container operations through a centralized web and mobile platform. By combining continuous monitoring, intelligent alerts, and location tracking, the solution enables organizations to move from reactive inspections to proactive cold chain management, improving operational efficiency while protecting valuable cargo.

About client
  • Industry: Container Manufacturing
  • Location: Vietnam
  • Short description: A leading Vietnamese manufacturer specialising in high-quality shipping containers and storage solutions for businesses across the logistics and transportation sectors.
3
Client Challenges
  • Ineffective Temperature and Humidity Control: Maintaining stable temperature and humidity was difficult, increasing the risk of cargo spoilage, quality issues, and compliance failures.
  • Delayed Issue Detection: Temperature fluctuations and equipment issues were often detected too late, delaying response and increasing operational risks.
  • Limited Container Location Visibility: Without real-time location visibility, managing and locating refrigerated containers across multiple sites was inefficient.
  • High Operational Costs: Manual inspections and on-site monitoring increased labour costs and made large-scale operations difficult to manage.

Solutions

KPS developed an IoT-based remote monitoring platform that provides real-time visibility into refrigerated container conditions, enabling operators to monitor, respond, and manage container operations remotely through a centralized web and mobile platform.

  • Temperature & Humidity Monitoring: Measure temperature and humidity inside refrigerated containers, with data sent to the management system. Users can view trends via time charts and statistical overviews for all containers.
  • Data Extraction & Storage: Allow users to download and store all data through Pre-Trip Inspection (PTI)
  • Remote Control: Allow users to adjust freezer settings remotely, including temperature and humidity, using a computer, smartphone, or tablet app.
  • Automatic alerts: Monitor for abnormalities in temperature and humidity, with real-time alerts sent to the management centre via SMS, Zalo, Skype, etc.
  • Location tracking: Track refrigerated containers in real time to improve fleet visibility and operational coordination across multiple locations.

Conclusion

Built for the Future of Connected Cold Chain Operations

What began as a solution for refrigerated container monitoring establishes a scalable digital foundation for future cold chain operations. By connecting environmental data, asset status, and operational events, the platform transforms isolated monitoring into a connected operational ecosystem that grows alongside the business.

As organizations expand across more facilities and assets, the same platform can be applied to cold storage warehouses, refrigerated transportation, pharmaceutical storage, food processing facilities, and other temperature-controlled environments. The continuous flow of operational data enables abnormal environmental detection, security monitoring, compliance and traceability, and creates a foundation for increasingly intelligent operations as business needs evolve.
